Worship Ministries

“Liturgy” comes from the Greek word “liturgea” which literally means “the work of the people”. Here at St. Stephen’s we celebrate wide participation by laity in our worship.

Acolytes: Both adults and children help lead worship by carrying the cross (“Crucifer”), candles (“Torches”), incense (“Thurifer” and “Boat”), and by serving at the altar. For more information contact Russell Corbett.

Altar Guild: This group prepares the altar for Sunday and weekday worship as well as for special services such as weddings and funerals. For more information please leave a message for Jane Prahl through the Parish Office.

Chalice Bearers: This group assists during the Mass (both 8:00 and 10:30 on Sundays) by administering the wine at Communion. Chalice Bearers need to be licensed by the Bishop. For more information contact The Rev’d Willie Allen-Faiella.

Lectors: These individuals read one of the Scripture lessons during the 10:30 mass. For more information contact Guy Bailey.

Music:During the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays our superb, largely volunteer choir sings a fine repertoire of Anglican anthems, psalms, and motets.  It is conducted by our music director and organist Dr. Dan Hardin. All are welcome to join the choir.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the music room above the Great Hall. In addition to the good fortune of having our excellent choir and organist, we are blessed with a 3 manual Schantz organ.  For more information or to join the choir, contact Dr. Dan Hardin.

Ushers: These participants are perhaps the most important of all in worship as they are responsible for the “Ministry of First Impressions”! For more information contact Chris Faiella.

Wedding Guild: Members of the Guild assist during wedding rehearsals and weddings. For more information contact Tommie Morris.
