BACK TO BASICS
Christianity and the Episcopal Church 101
This 4 week course will be offered in the fall and is taught by our rector, Pastor Willie. It will serve as an introduction to Christianity through the lens of the Episcopal Church. Topics such as “how do I read the Bible?” “what do Episcopalians believe about…?” and “what is St. Stephen’s Church all about?” will be addressed. The course is open to new members, seekers, and “old timers” alike.

Discovery Weekend
This “weekend” (actually Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon) is offered to those who have gone through a “Back to Basics” classes and make the decision to either be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church. The purpose of the “Weekend” is to explore in more depth the topics covered in the Basics class.

ADVANCED COURSES
“Liturgy for Living”
This 4 week course will examine the various liturgies of the Episcopal Church as well as introduce participants to the Book of Common Prayer as a handbook for living. Our prayer book gives meaning to the daily, monthly, and yearly cycles of our lives as well as providing the foundation for the nodal moments of our lives.

Preparing for Lent, Holy Week, and Easter
We will first look at Lent and find contemporary ways of using this season to prepare for Holy Week and Easter. Then the liturgies of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and the Mass of the Resurrection will be examined using the Book of Common Prayer as our source. The historical development of these important rites will be considered and the ways we participate in these liturgies at St. Stephen’s will be introduced. Those in class will be encouraged to make these days a part of their own spiritual journey.

Living a Sunday Faith in a Monday-Friday World
This course will examine issues of ethical living and decision-making. What does it mean to live out our baptismal vows on a daily basis? How does being an Episcopal Christian inform our daily lives? The course will be team-taught by our clergy.
This fall we will be offering classes in Theology and Science; Ethical Decision-Making; How to Read The Bible; Peace, Justice, and The Environment; and The Polity of The Episcopal Church.
